Description

Students will read and analyze 2 points of view from 1909 on whether women should get the right to vote by answering 35 questions. They will then answer 11 overarching and compare and contrast questions. Lastly, they will analyze 8 images and political cartoons according to 3 prompts. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub! 

Sample questions include:
--Explain the meaning of the phrase, “availing expression.” 
--Why was the ability to vote so crucial to maintaining freedom?
--What could be implied in the sentiments and tone of Howe’s second paragraph? 
--Identify the main point of the paragraph beginning with, “Wyoming.”
--Explain a potential problem Howe might not have thought of with her last point. If she had thought of it, would it have been a dealbreaker, why or why not?
--Why is leisure time relevant to the suffrage debate?
--Why would men get two votes if women were granted suffrage?
--Rewrite the "corrupt vote" paragraph in your own words to demonstrate understanding.
--Having read the whole excerpt, do you think Bissell would support partial or restricted female suffrage, why or why not? 
--Which of Howe’s points does Bissell most effectively counter and why?
--Which of Howe’s points does Bissell least effectively counter and why?
--If you could re-title each of these texts what would you choose and why?
