Description

Students will read excerpts from Chief Justice Warren's majority opinion on the 1954 Supreme Court Case Brown v. Board of Education, answer 14 questions and complete one creative task. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Explain the precedent that had been set with Plessy v. Ferguson.
--Why might the reference to Plessy being about transportation have been relevant in the majority opinion?
--Why did Warren determine that tangible similarities or differences in schools were insufficient grounds on which to rule the case?
--Explain what Warren believes can be avoided if schools are desegregated.
--The year after this ruling, there was Brown v. Board of Education II. Why do you think there needed to be another case on school desegregation?
