Description

Texas History students will read Texas' intent to secede from the Union and analyze it by answering 15 questions and completing one of two creative tasks. They can also complete a vocabulary task, a point of view task, a summary task, and more! There are 5 suggested ways students can complete this activity on the teacher information page. The answers are included where appropriate and this could work for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Explain how Texas perceived the purpose of achieving Manifest Destiny.
--In what ways has the Federal government sold Texas short (according to the document’s authors)?
--Why have sectional parties formed and what did the Northern sect demand?
--Discuss the effect on Texas and other slave states from the actions Northern states took during elections (at the ballot box).
--How do the Texans explain/defend why their point of view is the “right” one?
--Did Texas make a good enough case to justify secession, why or why not? Cite evidence from the text to support your answer either way.
