The Open Door Policy Primary Source and Image Analysis

Students will read and analyze John Hay's Open Door Note from Imperialism in China by answering 13 questions. They will then analyze 3 images by responding to 3 prompts. This would be great for a sub and the answers are included where appropriate.  

Sample questions include:
--Why was an assurance made to America that there wouldn’t be any negative impact from German control of the port? 
--Explain how declaring Giao-chao a “free port” was considered a “liberal” policy.
--What desire did the US, British, Japanese, Russian, German, etc governments share as per the last paragraph? How feasible do you think sticking to such an agreement was or was not, and why? 
--Inferring from prior knowledge and the text, was John Hay for or against Imperialism and why?
--This is referred to as the Open Door Note/Open Door Policy.  Cite evidence from the text that most supports that name for this policy.
