Description

Texas History students will read and analyze an account of a woman who lived through the Great Depression in Texas, witnessed the WPA in action during the New Deal by answering 15 questions. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub!

Sample questions include:
--Using context clues, about how long did she live in these conditions?
--Inferring from prior knowledge, why would the owner take everything Tiller and her husband had grown?
--What made Tiller stronger? Do you think her husband felt the same way? Why or why not?
--Identify the term that would summarize the injustice Tiller experience. Describe that experience. How was it rectified?
--How could people in the same town have such opposite views on prejudice/equality/civil rights/racism?
--Explain the meaning of the last sentence in your own words. What emotions does it evoke from you today? What about someone she might have said it to during the Great Depression?
