Texas Cattle Drives and Ranching Primary Source Analysis

Texas History students will read an account of a cowboy on a challenging cattle trail and an excerpt of the rules for being an employee at XIT Ranch in the 1800s. They will answer 13 questions and complete a creative task. The answers are included where appropriate and this would be great for a sub! 

Sample questions include: 
--Explain what happened when they reached the "last divide" and its implications.
--What does "ungovernable" mean in this context?
--What purpose do you think rule #8 served?
--For what reason could something be fired per rule #13? Do you think the punishment is appropriate, why or why not?
--Do you think the consequences of violating these and other such rules were worth the risk back then? Why or why not? Do you think these rules would have turned off prospective employees? Why or why not?
